COVID-19: GOVERNMENT EXTENDS LOCKDOWN BY TWO WEEKS

The daily increase in number of corona virus cases across the country has led to extension of lockdown in some states that record high number of cases on daily basis.

By statistics released so far by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), it has been noted that Lagos state has been toping on the list of states with highest number of confirmed cases across the country followed by Kano and other states.

To this effect, the government of Niger State through the governor – His Excellency Sani Bello has extended the lockdown in the state by another two weeks in other to curb the virus spread.

According to statement by the governor, he noted that the reason for the covid-19 lockdown extension was reduce and curtail the spread of the virus within the state which increases on daily basis.

The lockdown extension decision was contained in a statement by Ahmed Ibrahim Matane – Secretary to the Government of Niger State and Chairman, Niger State Task Force on COVID-19 Pandemic.

The governor said the extension would help protect people of the State and contain the virus.

The governor in same vein pleaded with the people of the state and residents to obey the directives given by the government and health workers which will promote curtailing the virus and as well enduring safety to the people of the safety.

The guidelines include but not limited to mandatory wearing of face masks in public places, observing social distancing, regular washing of hands with soap under running water, application of hand sanitizers and staying at home.

The governor gave other directives which he said, “Onwards, there shall be no human and vehicular movements during the lockdown days which are, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays except those on essential services. Meanwhile the three days window period of Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays remain”.

“In same vein, schools including public and private, ranging from primary to tertiary should remain closed. Other social activities that involves more that 20 people are highly prohibited and violators to these guidelines will be faced with strict penalty” – the governor said.
